Application must include the following:

  • Completion of online application
  • One-page single-spaced personal statement addressing your carrer goals, personal background, skills, and interest in pursing a career in STEM
  • Copy of your most recent transcript (unoffical is okay)
  • Copy of immunization records
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor/academic advisor/counselor
    • Second letter of recommendation is optional this year
    • Letters must be emailed directly to the Program Manager
  • Agreement of application conditions and certification

Program Information

HCI PathMaker Scholars Summer Research Program will begin on May 31 and end on August 6, 2021. Students are expected to commit 40 hours a week to their assigned research lab and other program-related activities.


The deadline to submit an application is 11:59 PM MT on February 21st, 2021. Your application is not considered complete until your letter of recommendation has been received by the program manager. Please have the recommender send the letter of recommendation via email directly to

Accepted and waitlisted applicants will receive a notification email at the end of March. Final notifications will be sent to the waitlisted applicants the first week in April.

COVID-19 Impact

In the case that the COVID-19 pandemic impacts in-person participation, a hybrid or fully-remote option will be implemented. All participants will be expected to fully participate and adhere to the adjusted program activities and agreements.


Admission is competitive. Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Applicant must have completed their junior year of high school by June 2021 or be a current undergraduate student.
  • Applicant must be in good academic standing and demonstrate an interest in the health sciences.
  • Applicant must be a citizen or non-citizen national of the United States or must have a current valid Alien Registration Card I-551, or other legal verification of such status. Individuals on temporary or student visas are not eligible.
  • Applicant must be from an underrepresented or disadvantaged background including, but not limited to, racial and ethnic minority students or those considered, economically, socially or educationally disadvantaged.   • Applicant must be able to commit to approximately 40 hours per week of employment for the entire duration of the program (May 31-August 6, 2021).
