Cancer Research High School Program
The Cancer Research High School (CRHS) Program at Huntsman Cancer Institute is sponsored by the American Cancer Society and seeks to increase the participation of women in biomedical fields, especially cancer research and medicine.
Program Information
The CRHS program provides a two-week virtual experience for female students going into their sophomore or junior year of high school. The program includes a series of virtual workshops, panels, and hands-on research activities using a laboratory science kit which will be sent directly to the participant's home.
- Week 1: Hands-on Cancer Research-Live online laboratory instruction with at-home experiment kit
- Week 2: Career Exploration in Cancer Research & Medicine-Virtual professional development workshop sessions
Dates & Time:
- Date: July 6 - 17, 2026
- Time: 8:30 a.m. MST - 12:30 p.m. MST (Monday - Friday)

Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a high school student in Utah, Nevada, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming
- Must have completed their freshman or sophomore year of high school prior to the program start (i.e., rising sophomores and juniors)
- Must be able to commit to four hours of virtual meetings Monday through Friday for two weeks in the summer (dates and times specified above)
- Must have parental or guardian consent to participate
Expectations
- Students must commit to attending all 40 hours of virtual program sessions
- Students will be asked to complete surveys to evaluate the program

Remote Immersive Science Experience
(HCI-RISE)
The Remote Immersive Science Experience (RISE) Program is a virtual summer research experience for high school students from the Mountain West-especially those from rural communities-who are curious about cancer research and healthcare careers.
Program Information
Hosted by Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI), this immersive program introduces students to a wide range of cancer research, public health, and education efforts taking place across HCI. Through interactive workshops, career panels, and small group activities, students gain early exposure to health and science career pathways at HCI and beyond.
- Week 1: Understanding Cancer Through Research, Data, & Community at HCI
- Week 2: Developing Skills & Leadership for Careers at HCI & Beyond

- Date: July 13-16 & 20-23, 2026
- Time: 8:30 a.m. MST - 12:00 p.m. MST (Monday - Thursday)
