This form will close at 11:59 pm (Mountain Time) on February 12, 2023. You MUST COMPLETE THIS APPLICATION IN ONE SITTING. We suggest writing your answers in Microsoft Word and then transferring them to this form

The application must include:

  • Completion of online application form
  • One-page, single-spaced personal statement addressing your career goals, personal background, skills, and interest in STEM career  
  • Most recent transcript (unofficial is okay)
  • Immunization records
  • One letter of recommendation from a teacher/professor/academic advisor/counselor
    • A Letter of recommendation (LOR) will be collected via a separate form which will be sent via email to your reference. This email will be sent once you submit your portion of the application. It is your responsibility to follow up with your reference to ensure they received the request and submit your letter by the deadline above.
  • Agreement of application conditions and certification

Program Information

The Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) PathMaker Scholars Summer Research Program runs May 29-August 4, 2023. Students are expected to commit 40 hours a week.


The deadline to submit an application is February 12, 2023, at 11:59 PM MST.

Your application is not considered complete until your letter of recommendation has been received. Your letter of recommendation must be turned in by your reference no later than February 15 at 11:59 pm. Once your letter is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email from us.

Accepted and waitlisted applicants will receive an email at the end of March. Final notifications will be sent to the waitlisted applicants the first week of April.


Admission is competitive. Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • High school students must have completed their junior year prior to program start.
  • College students must be currently enrolled and freshmen or sophomores.
  • Must be in good academic standing and demonstrate an interest in the health sciences.
  • Must be from a population traditionally underrepresented in biomedical sciences or a disadvantaged background, such as, racial and ethnic minority students or economically, socially, or educationally disadvantaged.   • Must commit to approximately 40 hours per week of employment for the entire duration of the program (May 29 - Aug. 4, 2023).
